ZBrush and photoshop only. Take a quite a lot of post-processing but I enjoy it.

Looks good for a first project. Watch out for using too may subdivs before finishing the main shape.

I don't have any specific tutorials, since I've mostly learned by trial and error. But all the official tutorials at Pixologic's site are super useful. As for rendering it's best to make a small canvas and just try out different settings, that's the way I learned.

3d, yes. I don't think I'd have the patience to do this in 2d
